Police charge man with wounding in North-West

A man has been charged following an altercation at Waratah in Tasmania's north west.

Police and emergency services responded to an incident at Collins Street in Waratah in the early hours of this morning, in which a 50 year old man received a non life threatening stab wound to the face by another man known to him.

The man was transported to the North West Regional Hospital where he received treatment. He was released later in the morning.

Police remained at the scene for several hours while forensic examinations were conducted. The scene has now been cleared.

An 18-year-old man has since been charged with wounding and will appear in the Burnie Magistates Court on 16 May.

Police would like to reassure the public that this was an isolated incident and did not pose any threat of harm to the community.
