Police charge men after assault on day release

Two men have been charged for intention and assault offences while on day release from a Corrective Services NSW run facility in Parklea on Thursday.

About 12.40pm (20 June 2019), two men were walking through the carpark of a commercial building on York Street in Sydney before entering the fire escape stairwell.

A building employee entered the stairwell where he was allegedly assaulted by a 22-year-old male who then left the scene via York Lane.

A second male, who is 24-years-old, allegedly attempted to break into a storage area. He pushed past the building employee and a scuffle ensued before the man could be subdued by the building employee and nearby witnesses.

The 24-year-old male was arrested by police and taken to Day Street Police Station.

He was charged with enter building to commit indictable offence, possess housebreaking implements, convicted offender armed with intent, trespass, malicious damage and common assault. He was bail refused and will appear at Central Local Court on 21 June 2019.

A 22-year-old male was arrested when he returned to the Corrective Services NSW run facility and was taken to Riverstone Police Station.

He was charged with enter building to commit indictable offence, convicted offender armed with intent, trespass and assault actual bodily harm. He will appear at Blacktown Local Court on 21 June 2019.
