Police Charge Six People After Series Of Serious Crimes

Westgate Divisional Response Unit / Alliance have charged six people after they were arrested in a stolen vehicle in Tarneit today.

Police alleged the group have been involved in a series of home invasions, aggravated burglaries and car thefts across north west metro region this week.

Officers sighted an allegedly stolen Mazda CX5 on Hummingbird Boulevard, Tarneit, with five people on board, about 6.10am today.

Police tracked the Mazda for a short time before they lost sight of the vehicle.

Officers, who continued to patrol the area, sighted the Mazda on Delias Road, Tarneit about 12.10pm.

Westgate Divisional Response Unit members, with the assistance of the Police Airwing, continued monitoring the group.

At 2.20pm the Mazda came to a stop on Homestead Drive, Tarneit, and a passenger exited the vehicle, before the car continued.

The 18-year-old man from Tarneit was swiftly arrested.

Shortly afterward the four other occupants of the Mazda dumped the car on Homestead Drive Tarneit and transferred into another allegedly stolen vehicle, a Hyundai i30.

Police continued to follow the Hyundai, along with the assistance of Airwing, through Newport, Altona North and Truganina.

At 4pm the offending vehicle stopped at a service station on Leakes Road, Truganina where multiple police units descended.

The offending vehicle rammed all four police units in an attempt to flee the area.

All four vehicles were damaged but luckily no one was injured.

Police arrested the four occupants of the car at the scene, they have all since been charged.

Charges include:

  • 20-year-old man from Hoppers Crossing, the alleged driver of the car, charged with home invasion (x2) aggravated burglary (x2), theft of motor vehicle and intentionally endanger emergency service worker. Remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court 27 June.
  • A 22-year-old Werribee man, charged with aggravated burglary, theft of motor vehicle and obtain property by deception. Remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court 27 June.
  • An 18-year-old Tarneit man charged with theft of motor vehicle and handle stolen goods. Bailed to appear at Wyndham Magistrates' Court 25 August.
  • 20-year-old man from Tarneit charged with theft of motor vehicle. Bailed to appear at Wyndham Magistrates' Court on 25 August.
  • A 15-year-old boy from the Wyndham area, charged with home invasion (x2), aggravated burglary (x2) and theft of motor vehicle. Remanded to appear at a children's court at a later date.
  • A 14-year-old boy from the Wyndham area charged with theft of motor vehicle. Bailed to appear at a children's court at a later date.

The charges relate to:

  • Home invasion on Rotino Crescent, Lalor on 22 June
  • Aggravated burglary on Edith Street, Tarneit on 23 June at 3am
  • Aggravated burglary on Barcelona Way, Tarneit on 23 June at 5.30am
  • Home invasion on Bolte Drive, Truganina on 26 June about 6am.
