Police charge teen after break and enter and pursuit offences at Richmond

A teenager has been charged after an alleged break and enter and pursuit in the state's north today.

About 2am (Thursday 7 July 2022), a home on Ramsey Close, Lismore, was allegedly broken into, with a set of car keys and car stolen from the premises.

Officers attached to Richmond Police District were notified and observed the vehicle driving west along Ballina Road, Lismore.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle on Ballina Road near Neilson Street, Ballina; however, the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed and a pursuit was initiated.

The vehicle stopped on Gundurimba Road, with the driver and four passengers fleeing the scene.

Police continued the pursuit on foot and arrested one passenger – an 11-year-old girl – a short distance away.

The driver of the vehicle – a 16-year-old girl – was arrested a short time later at a nearby service station.

The pair was taken to Lismore Police Station.

The older girl was charged with aggravated break and enter dwelling in company steal, take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, and police pursuit - not stop - drive at speed.

She was refused bail and will appear before a children's court today (Thursday 7 July 2022).

The younger girl was dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
