Police charge teen after crash - Mascot

Three teens have been charged following a serious crash in Mascot over the weekend.

Just before 1am on Sunday 3 December 2023, emergency services were called to Southern Cross Drive, Mascot, following reports of a two-vehicle crash.

With the assistance of Fire and Rescue NSW, officers from the Rescue and Bomb Disposal Squad freed all three passengers from the Kia.

A 13-year-old boy was taken to the Sydney Children's Hospital at Randwick in a serious condition.

Two girls, aged 12 and 13, were taken to the same hospital for observations.

The driver of the Kia allegedly left the scene on foot prior to the arrival of emergency services.

The 19-year-old male driver and sole occupant of the other vehicle was uninjured.

Officers from South Sydney Police Area Command established a crime scene which was examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Following extensive inquiries, a 14-year-old boy was arrested in Woolloomooloo about 2pm yesterday (Monday 4 December 2023).

He was taken to Kings Cross Police Station, where he was charged with

- fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing grievous bodily harm,

- dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm - drive manner dangerous,

- cause bodily harm by misconduct,

- in charge of motor vehicle

- and driver not wear seatbelt properly adjusted and fastened.

He was refused bail to appear before a children's court today (Tuesday 5 December 2023).

The older girl was refused bail to appear before a children's court today (Tuesday 5 December 2023) and the younger girl was granted conditional bail to appear before a children's court on Monday 22 January 2024.
