Police charge teen after Melton robberies

Officers from Transit have arrested and charged a 16-year-old boy from Braybrook following two robberies in Melton.

Investigators have been told a 15-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy were at a bus stop near the Melton Railway Station about 4.15pm on Monday August 1.

It is alleged they were approached by a male who demanded phones and cash before assaulting both of the victims.

They complied and the offender left the area.

Investigators believe this incident is possibly linked to another which occurred in High Street, Melton on Sunday 31 July about 6.20pm.

Officers have been told a 19-year-old man was waiting for a bus outside a shopping centre when he was approached by a male.

It is alleged the male produced a knife and demanded the victim hand over his phone and clothing.

A passer-by intervened and the victim ran off but was chased by the offender and forced to hand over the items.

The 16-year-old has been charged with armed robbery and robbery and has been remanded to appear at a Children's Court at a later date.
