Police charge teen after vehicle theft, pursuit at Dubbo

A teenager has been charged following a police pursuit involving a stolen vehicle in the state's Orana Region.

About 2.30am on Saturday (10 April 2021), officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District attended a caravan park on Whylandra Street, Dubbo, following reports a Ford Ranger had been stolen.

It is alleged the teen entered a caravan while the occupant slept and stole keys to the vehicle.

Police commenced patrols of the area and located the ute on East Street, a short time later.

It is alleged the driver accelerated away harshly after police activated their warning lights and sirens to signal the vehicle to stop.

A pursuit was initiated through the Dubbo township and onto the Newell Highway towards Gilgandra.

The pursuit continued along Minore Road, Dubbo where police successfully deployed road spikes.

The vehicle stopped on Erskine Street where the driver, a 14-year-old boy, was arrested following a short struggle.

He was taken to Dubbo Police Station and charged with offences including aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence, steal motor vehicle, police pursuit, face blackened/ disguised with intent commit indictable offence, and resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty.

The boy appeared before a children's court on Saturday (10 April 2021) where he was formally refused bail to appear before a children's court on Monday 19 April 2021.
