Police Charge Two After Armed Robbery At Newcastle

Two men have been charged following an investigation into an alleged armed robbery near Newcastle in August.

About 11.30pm on Monday 18 August 2025, police were called to a business on Maitland Road, Mayfield, following reports of an armed robbery.

At the scene, police were told two males allegedly entered the store and threatened staff with a firearm before leaving with cash. No injuries were reported.

A crime scene was established and inquiries into the incident commenced by Newcastle City Detectives under Strike Force Samway.

Following extensive inquiries, detectives – assisted by Tactical Police and Police Negotiators – executed a search warrant at a home on Mulga Street, Windale, about 9.25pm yesterday (Tuesday 30 September 2025).

During a search of the home and a vehicle parked at the premises, police allegedly located and seized a firearm, clothing and electronics.

Two men – aged 25 and 28 – were arrested and taken to Belmont Police Station.

The younger man was charged with steal motor vehicle, robbery while armed with dangerous weapon, possess unauthorised firearm, possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority. He was also charged with special aggravated break and enter with intent - armed with dangerous weapon, in relation to a break and enter alleged to have occurred at the same business about 1.35am on Wednesday 12 February 2025, where cash, keys, and a car were allegedly stolen.

The older man was charged with robbery while armed with dangerous weapon.

Both men were refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 today (Wednesday 1 October 2025), where they were formally refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday 11 November 2025.
