Police charge two after Chatswood cannabis cultivation - Gordon RES

Police have charged two men as part of ongoing investigations into indoor cannabis cultivation in Sydney's north-shore.

In June 2019, the North West Metropolitan Region Enforcement Squad (RES) at Gordon, commenced investigations into two residential homes in Chatswood, believed to be used to cultivate cannabis.

On Wednesday (31 July 2019), Gordon RES, assisted by Penrith RES and officers from North Shore Police Area Command, executed two search warrants at Greville Street and Fullers Road in Chatswood.

At 7.05pm, officers arrested a 26-year-old man attempting to flee the Greville Street residence.

The Greville Street house was found to have been completely converted for the purpose of cultivating cannabis.

Police located and seized 436 cannabis plants in seven grow rooms, valued at approximately $1.5 million. Hydroponic equipment and 40kg of cannabis leaf, valued at approximately $250,000 were also seized.

At 7.15pm, officers arrested a 23-year-old male hiding in the roof of the Fullers Road residence, which had also been converted for the purpose of cultivating cannabis.

Police located and seized 159 cannabis plants from six grow rooms, valued at approximately $630,000.

Both men were taken to Chatswood Police Station.

The 26-year-old was charged with large commercial cultivation and stealing electricity.

The 23-year-old was charged with commercial cultivation and stealing electricity.

The men were refused bail and will appear at Hornsby Local Court today (Thursday 1 August 2019).
