Police charge two after drugs and cash seized – Surry Hills

Two people have been charged after police allegedly located nearly half a million dollars of illicit drugs and $14,000 cash in Surry Hills earlier this week.

About 12.40pm on Tuesday (8 September 2020), officers attached to North Central Police Transport Command’s Target Action Group stopped a man and woman on Chalmers Street, Surry Hills, after checks revealed the man was wanted on outstanding warrants.

Upon a search of the woman’s duffle bag and backpack, police located 480g of methylamphetamine and 142g of cocaine. The total estimated potential street value of the drugs is $420,000.

Police also located $14,000 cash and mobile phones, which will undergo further examination.

The 28-year-old man and 33-year-old woman were arrested and taken to Surry Hills Police Station.

Following the arrests, a search warrant was executed at a home on Mentmore Street, Rosebery, where police seized prohibited drugs including cocaine, methylamphetamine and cannabis.

The woman, from Rosebery, was charged with supply prohibited drug, supply prohibited drug (commercial quantity), and deal with property proceeds of crime.

The man, from Lansvale, was charged with contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (domestic) and supply prohibited drug.

He was also charged with two outstanding warrants for theft, assault, property and domestic-related offences.

They were both refused bail and appeared at Central Local Court yesterday (Wednesday 9 September), where they were formally refused bail, with the man to reappear before the same court on Wednesday 23 September and the woman on Thursday 5 November 2020.
