Police Charge Two After Melbourne East Hit-run

Yarra Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged two people following a hit-run collision in East Melbourne last week.

An allegedly stolen black Mercedes Benz collided with a black Mazda 2 at the intersection of Hoddle and Freeman streets about 9pm on Wednesday 23 July.

The incident caused another collision involving a blue Hyundai i30 and a white Volkswagen T-Cross.

The male driver of the Hyundai and the female driver of the Volkswagen were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The occupants of the Mercedes fled the scene on foot before emergency services arrived.

The Mercedes, a black 2018 SUV with registration VZY860, was allegedly stolen from Elle Close in Bundoora on 19 July and was abandoned at the scene.

A man and woman were arrested on 24 July in Collingwood.

The 22-year-old Bundoora man was charged with aggravated carjacking - In possession of an Imitation firearm, armed robbery, attempted carjacking, aggravated burglary, theft from a motor vehicle, 5 x theft of a motor vehicle, 2 x theft, fail to stop vehicle after an accident and fail to render assistance after accident.

He was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 20 October.

The 20-year-old Mildura woman was charged with aggravated carjacking - In possession of an Imitation firearm, armed robbery, attempted carjacking, aggravated burglary, possess methylamphetamine, 5 x theft of motor vehicle, theft and handle stolen goods.

She was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 20 October.

Investigators continue to search for one other male occupant of the Mercedes that fled on foot.

He is described as Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, approximately 17-years-old, 182cm tall with a solid build, unshaven with black curly hair
