A man and woman will face court today charged following an alleged reckless wounding at Ballina over the weekend.
About 7.55pm on Sunday (23 August 2026), emergency services responded to reports of an incident on River Street, Ballina.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated a 22-year-old man for a laceration to the right lower leg.
He was taken to Lismore Base Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Officers from Richmond Police District were informed that the man was approached by two people on an e-bike.
After a brief discussion, the passenger on the e-bike allegedly produced a machete and struck the man to the lower right leg before leaving the scene.
About 1pm yesterday (Tuesday 25 August 2026), following extensive inquiries, police executed a search warrant at a home on Treelands Crescent, Ballina.
A 25-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were arrested and taken to Ballina Police Station.
They were each charged with reckless wounding – in company.
The man and woman were refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 1 today (Wednesday 26 August 2026).
It's believed that the man and woman are known to the 22-year-old man.
