Alternative construction methods have delivered 38 new social housing units in North Coogee eight months faster than usual as part of a $23.5 million joint Cook and Albanese Labor Government social housing project.

12 one-bedroom, two studio and 24 two-bedroom apartments, delivered by Western Australian businesses, PARC Developments and Tyrone Group, were completed ahead of schedule in 14 months thank to the usage of prefabricated components.

While siteworks were underway, prefabricated bathroom pods and masonry wall panels were assembled offsite and trucked to North Coogee. This dramatically reduced construction time while minimising the disruption to surrounding residents.

Tyrone Group was the first Australian company to manufacture masonry wall panels. These panels and other components are constructed at their Neerabup facility, supporting local jobs and industry while strengthening Western Australia's advanced manufacturing capability.

This innovative project was supported by the Federal Albanese Labor Government's $2 billion Social Housing Accelerator Payment fund.

The homes will be managed by a community housing provider, with tenants set to move in later this year.

These 38 social homes add to the more than 4,300 social homes delivered through the Cook Labor Government's record $10.8 billion investment in housing measures since 2021.

As stated by Housing and Works Minister John Carey:

"The use of innovative technology demonstrates that we can deliver more homes, sooner, when we look beyond the traditional double brick builds.

"Thanks to prefabricated components, 38 new social homes were delivered in just 14 months - eight months less than it would take using traditional construction methods.

"It means another 38 homes in a well-serviced community that add to the more than 4,300 new social homes we've delivered since 2021."

As stated by Federal Member for Fremantle Josh Wilson:

"Affordable housing is one of our most pressing challenges, which is why the Albanese Labor Government is making the biggest investment in social and affordable housing in a generation.

"In partnership with the Cook Labor Government we are getting on with the job of delivering the housing West Australians need.

"It's terrific to see these 38 new social homes completed in North Coogee around eight months sooner than a traditional build, demonstrating how innovation can help deliver more housing, faster."

As stated by Fremantle MLA Simone McGurk:

"Social housing provides affordable homes to some of our community's most vulnerable, such as seniors, single parents, people with a disability or people fleeing family and domestic violence.

"These 38 new homes are well situated close to public transport and the range of services offered in the heart of Fremantle.

"We know that there are currently challenges in the housing market, so this significant boost to housing is a welcome addition to our community."
