Police charge two people after police pursuit - Fairfield West

Police have charged two people following a pursuit in Sydney's south-west yesterday.

About 3.30pm (Friday 2 October 2020), Traffic and Highway Patrol officers from Traffic South West were conducting speed enforcement duties on the Cumberland Highway, Fairfield West.

During the operation, officers checked the speed of a Kia Cerato Sport that was travelling south along the Cumberland Highway at a checked speed of 98km/h in a 70kp/h zone.

Police stepped onto the road and signalled for the vehicle to stop, however, the car did a U-turn and sped north along the Cumberland Highway towards Smithfield Road.

Police initiated a pursuit along Smithfield Road, and continued along numerous streets heading towards Wetherill Park.

Once the Kia entered Kaputar Place in Prairiewood, the vehicle stopped, and two people got out and ran.

Police chased the pair and arrested a 40-year-old man, believed to be the driver, and a woman 29-year-old woman.

They were taken to Fairfield Police Station where the man was charged with not stop vehicle when directed to do so, and police pursuit 2nd offence.

He was refused bail and will appear in Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday 3 October 2020).

The woman was found to have an outstanding conviction warrant. She will also appear at Parramatta Local Court today.
