Police charge two with commercial drug supply between Victoria and Southern NSW

Two men have been charged following an investigation into the alleged supply of prohibited drugs between Victoria and NSW.

In June this year, Strike Force Geegullalong was established by Murray River Police District to investigate the alleged supply of prohibited drugs – predominately cocaine and methylamphetamine – from Melbourne into Southern NSW.

Following extensive inquiries, strike force investigators arrested a 20-year-old Melbourne man in the township of Holbrook, south of Wagga Wagga, about 12.15pm yesterday (Wednesday 7 December 2022).

Soon after, officers from Victoria Police's Major Drug Squad attended a home in Lord Street, Richmond, Victoria, and arrested a 36-year-old man.

A search warrant was executed at the Richmond home, where police seized mobile phones, items consistent with the manufacture of prohibited drugs, including two pill presses, and other items relevant to the investigation.

A second search warrant was executed at the home of the younger man in Melbourne, where police seized 1kg of cocaine, 500g of methylamphetamine and $20,000 cash.

All items will undergo forensic examination.

The younger man was taken to Albury Police Station and has since been charged with an outstanding warrant and nine offences;

  • Supply prohibited drug – greater than indictable quantity (six counts)
  • Supply prohibited drug – commercial quantity – serious indictable offence (two counts)
  • Supply prohibited drug – large commercial quantity – serious indictable offence.

He appeared in Albury Local Court today where he was formally refused bail to reappear in the same court on Tuesday 7 February 2023.

NSW Police detectives travelled to Victoria yesterday (Thursday 8 December 2022), where they applied for and were granted the older man's extradition to NSW at Melbourne Magistrates Court.

The 36-year-old man was issued a Future Court Attendance Notice for 11 offences;

  • Supply prohibited drug greater than indictable & less than commercial quantity (seven counts)
  • Supply prohibited drug greater than or equal to commercial quantity (two counts)
  • Supply prohibited drug greater than or equal to large commercial quantity (two counts)

He was remanded in custody to appear at Wagga Wagga Local Court tomorrow (Saturday 10 December 2022).
