Police coordinate response to Townsville severe weather

The Townsville District Disaster Management Group is coordinating the response to severe weather impacting the region today.

Over the past several hours, very heavy, intense rainfall has fallen in areas north and west of Townsville resulting in the inundation of several properties along Forestry Road in Bluewater.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services swift water rescue crews and Water Police have assisted in the evacuation of several properties, and the response remains ongoing.

Crews are also conducting checks of neighbouring properties.

The Bureau of Meteorology advises that the intense rainfall will continue throughout the afternoon

The Bruce Highway is also cut on the northern side of Bluewater Creek.

Drivers are asked to remain off the roads in the area.
