Police investigate Port Melbourne assault

Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for public assistance following an assault in Port Melbourne yesterday.

Investigators have been told an altercation between two groups of people started as they left a venue on Beach Street about 11.20pm.

A vehicle has then driven at slow speed into a group of people who were on the footpath, before driving off.

A 22-year-old Preston woman and a 23-year-old Templestowe man both received non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.

Police have released CCTV footage and images of the vehicle, which they believe to be a small light-coloured hatchback.

Anyone who recognises this vehicle, who witnessed the incident or with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or file a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
