Police investigate stabbings in Chadstone

Monash Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating two separate incidents which occurred at a reserve in Chadstone on New Year's Day.

Investigators have been told two men attended a reserve on Batesford Road, Chadstone just before midnight on 31 December to watch fireworks.

About 12.05am they were approached by a man who tried to initiate a fight.

He got close to the pair and slashed one of the men on the arm.

The victims left the scene and reported the matter to police.

The offender is perceived to be Caucasian, in his 20s, approximately 183cm tall and with short brown hair.

At the time of the offence he was shirtless but wearing black shorts and runners and may have attended the reserve with a woman and a child in a pram.

The second incident occurred about 5.20am at the same reserve.

Detectives have been told a 32-year-old man was in the reserve about 5.20am when he was involved in an altercation with a number of males.

He was stabbed twice in the stomach before fleeing and seeking assistance at a nearby residence.

Investigators wish to speak to anyone who witnessed either incident or who has further information.
