Police investigate suspicious death of koala at Laurieton

Investigations are continuing after a deceased koala with what appears to be a deliberate hole in its chest was located by a member of the public within a reserve on the state's Mid North Coast.

About 7.30am on Saturday (19 October 2019), officers attached to Mid North Coast Police District received reports of a deceased koala with a significant chest injury had been located within the Henry Kendall Reserve at Laurieton.

Police attended the scene, some 50m east of the toilet block within the reserve, where they located the deceased koala with what appeared to be a deliberate hole in its chest resembling that of an arrow or something similar.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the animal's death continue.
