Detectives from the Arson and Explosives Squad are investigating a fire in Wantirna yesterday where a person was located deceased.
Emergency services were called to a fire at a residential property on Templeton Street about 8am on Wednesday, 11 December.
A person, believed to be a female resident, was located deceased at the property.
An 81-year-old Wantirna man was conveyed to hospital where he remains under police guard.
The exact circumstances surrounding the fire and death are still to be determined.
