Police Investigating Wounding At Earlville

Police have taken two people into custody following an incident in Earlville this morning, 25 March.

Initial investigations indicate just before 6.20am, an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy assaulted a 58-year-old Earlville man at a bus stop at a Mulgrave Road shopping centre.

He sustained minor injuries and did not require medical attention.

Shortly after, the males wounded a 24-year-old Edmonton man at the bus stop and stole property from him.

The males then assaulted a 69-year-old man who attempted to intervene, he sustained a significant head injury.

Police administered first aid to the two men with the 24-year-old man being treated for a wound to his chest and the 69-year-old man being treated for a head injury.

Both were transported to Cairns Hospital and are in a stable condition.

Around 8.45am one of the males was taken into custody at a Mestrez Street property, the other was taken into custody shortly after at the intersection of Sunflower and Mestrez Street.

A crime scene has been declared in the area around the shopping centre and Mestrez Street.

Investigations are ongoing.
