Police Launch High-visibility Operation In Lead-up To Bathurst 1000

NSW Police will conduct a high-visibility police operation during Australia's ultimate supercar endurance event at Bathurst's iconic Mount Panorama Motor Racing Circuit this weekend.

The 2025 Repco Bathurst 1000 begins with practice laps tomorrow (Thursday 9 October 2025), with the main event starting at 10.30am on Sunday (12 October 2025).

More than 200,000 people including competitors, officials and spectators are expected to descend on Mount Panorama, and Operation Bathurst 2025 will ensure the event is safe and secure for all.

General Duties police attached to Chifley Police District and across Western Region, will be assisted by specialist officers from the Operations Support Group (OSG), Dog Unit, PolAir, Licensing Police, Bicycle Unit, Youth Command (PCYC), Public Order and Riot Squad (PORS), Police Transport Command and Traffic and Highway Patrol Command throughout the operation.

Additional Traffic and Highway Patrol officers will be deployed across the weekend to target speeding, drink-driving, fatigue and dangerous driver behaviour.

Operation Bathurst 2025 Commander, Assistant Commissioner Andrew Holland APM, said police will be focusing on road safety and crowd behaviour, ensuring a minimal impact on the local community.

"This is a family event, and we want racegoers to enjoy the weekend, so we're here to ensure that all racegoers behave responsibly and are considerate of those around them," Assistant Commissioner Holland said.

"Take care of your mates and to ensure you make it to and from their destinations safely, plan your trips ahead of time, if you are drinking, do not drive."

"There will be a significant increase of vehicles on our roads as the race coincides with the end of NSW school holidays.

"Don't put yourself, or other road users at risk, our officers will be on alert and – if you break the road rules –will enforce them. Assistant Commissioner Holland said.

"Random drug and alcohol testing will be in place in and around Bathurst, and people are urged to take precautions to make sure they arrive safely and get home from the event in one piece.

"I again remind those making their way to Mount Panorama to drive to the conditions and show patience and courtesy to other road users."

"The community should be aware that we will have licensing police in and around licensed venues to target alcohol-related crime and anti-social behaviour," Assistant Commissioner Holland said.

Bathurst Mayor, Cr Robert Taylor, remarked that the Repco Bathurst 1000 brings a wonderful influx of visitors to town, putting a deserving spotlight on everything Regional NSW has to offer.

"The Repco Bathurst 1000 is a celebrated and highly anticipated event in the international racing calendar, and it really is terrific to have the excitement of this race return to our iconic Mount Panorama Racing Circuit each year. It's a brilliant spectacle that puts the region on the map.

"Race week is always an exhilarating time as not only does The Mount roar into action, but our CBD comes alive with visitors travelling to our city to enjoy both the buzz of the race and the thrill of the off-track events.

"With everything from camping, street festivals and driver parades taking place throughout the week, it's a great help to have Supercars alongside to ensure everything runs smoothly, as well as NSW Police who are dedicated to maintaining a safe environment for all, both on and off The Mount," said Mayor Taylor.

Supercars' Chief Events Officer Phil Shaw said, "We're incredibly grateful for the outstanding planning and commitment NSW Police has once again shown through Operation Bathurst 1000, ensuring the safety of everyone on site remains the highest priority," Mr Shaw said.

"On behalf of Supercars, I'd like to extend our sincere thanks to NSW Police for their continued support in helping deliver a safe and memorable experience for all fans attending this iconic event."
