Police have charged a 20-year-old Brassall man with multiple offences, including armed robbery and unlawful use of a motor vehicle, following multiple stolen motorbike incidents on 26 and 27 December.
It will be alleged around 7pm on 26 December, two motorcycles, a black BMW and a blue Yamaha R3, forced a dark-coloured Kawasaki Ninja to stop on the Warrego Highway between Dinmore and Blacksoil. The occupants of the two motorcycles then stole the Kawasaki and left the black BMW behind.
Police will further allege that around 12:15pm on 27 December, three motorcycles, a white KTM, a dark-coloured Kawasaki Ninja, and a white dirt bike, forced the rider of a Yamaha R7 off his motorcycle at the intersection of Bognuda Street and Law Street, Bundamba. The offenders took the Yamaha R7 and left the white KTM.
Following directed patrols linked to the crime series, Ipswich Criminal Investigation Branch observed motorcycles matching the description of those vehicles of interest in Goodna around 1pm yesterday, 28 December.
Assisted by PolAir, officers tracked a dark-coloured Kawasaki Ninja through the Ipswich area. Police will allege that around 2.05pm, the motorcycle went through a red light at speed on Burnett Street, Sadliers Crossing and struck a cyclist. The Kawasaki then left the scene.
The cyclist was assessed for injuries on scene.
PolAir continued to track the Kawasaki to Mount Crosby Road, Anstead, where the rider, a 20-year-old Brassall man, was taken into custody.
The 20-year-old Brassall man was charged with two counts each of armed robbery and unauthorised use of a motor vehicle, and one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and driving without a license.
He is due to appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court today, 29 December.
Investigators are continuing to locate any other persons with outstanding roles in relation to these incidents and are appealing for anyone who may have relevant CCTV/dashcam footage or information to come forward.
Investigations remain ongoing.
