Police lay charges after $30,000 worth of drugs seized during vehicle stop at Moree

Two men will appear in court today charged after $30,000 worth of methylamphetamine was seized during a vehicle stop in the state's north yesterday.

About 1.30pm (Tuesday 27 October 2021), officers attached to Peel Traffic and Highway Patrol stopped a Holden Astra on the Gwydir Highway, Pallamallawa, after it was detected travelling above the sign-posted speed limit.

Officers spoke to the driver, a 33-year-old man, who underwent a roadside drug test, returning a positive result.

In a subsequent search of the vehicle, police allegedly located two packages of white powder, believed to be 32.14g of methylamphetamine, and cannabis. They were seized and will undergo further forensic examination.

The packages have an estimated potential street value of approximately $30,000.

The driver and a 44-year-old male passenger were arrested and taken to Moree Police Station.

The driver was charged with drive motor vehicle during disqualification period.

The passenger was charged with supply prohibited drug, possess prohibited drug, possession of equipment for administering prohibited drugs and custody of knife in public place.

Both men were refused bail to appear at Moree Local Court today (Wednesday 27 October 2021).
