Police lay charges after arrests by Caulfield DRU

Caulfield Divisional Response Unit (DRU) have charged four people following the execution of a number of search warrants as part of the second phase of a drug operation in the inner south eastern suburbs of Melbourne yesterday.

Detectives executed six search warrants as part of Operation Brandish, phase two, at residential and commercial properties in Ormond, Bentleigh East, Carnegie and Caulfield South.

Detectives seized a commercial quantity of what is believed to be MDMA, methylamphetamine, cocaine, cannabis and heroin, a quantity of hallucinogenic mushrooms, thousands of dollars in cash as well as a firearm.

A 50-year-old man from Bentleigh Eat has been charged with traffick and possess drugs including cannabis and cocaine, possess proceeds of crime and possess prohibited weapons.

He appeared at court via video link last night and was remanded to reappear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court this morning.

He has been further remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 4 January 2021.

Two men, aged 35 from Carnegie and 45 from Ormond, were both charged with drug offences.

The duo was bailed and will appear at Moorabbin Justice Centre on 13 May 2021.

A 36-year-old woman from Carnegie was released and is expected to be charged on summons with drug related offences.

A 53-year-old woman from St Kilda was arrested and released without charge.

Investigators are expecting further arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.

In total, 25 people have been arrested as part of the operation.

Caulfield Divisional Response Unit were supported by a number of specialist units including Prahran and Dandenong DRUs, Bayside Sexual Offence and Child Abuse Investigation Team, Crime Scene Services, Dog Squad, Southern Metro Frontline Tasking Unit and detectives from the Southern Metro Crime Team.

The operation which has been running for over 12-month, has seen 25 people arrested and (total number) charges which have targeted a criminal network believed to be trafficking primarily methylamphetamine in the inner south eastern suburbs of Melbourne.
