Police lay charges after Assault Investigation

As a result of an ongoing investigation by Bellerive CIB, a man has been charged following a serious assault in Sorell on Sunday the 21st of March 2021 where a 61-year-old male received non-life-threatening injuries from a knife and metal bar. His car was also stolen and later allegedly set on fire.

A 27 year old Glenorchy man has been charged with numerous offences including aggravated armed robbery, stealing and unlawfully setting fire to property after a number of searches were conducted by police across the Greater Hobart area on the morning of Tuesday 23 March.

He has been held in custody to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court on Wednesday 24 March.

Two other men remain in custody and are assisting police with their inquiries.

Police would like to thank members of the public who have already assisted police and provided valuable information.

Police are still appealing to members of the public that may have dashcam footage of a maroon Toyota RAV4 travelling on the Tasman and Arthur Highways between Schofield Drive, Sorell and Bakers Road, Penna between 1:50pm - 2:00pm on Sunday 21 March or a grey Ford Falcon utility travelling on Brinktop Road from Sorell into Richmond about 2:15pm to come forward.
