A man has been charged after a collision with a motorcycle and alleged police assault at Wollongong yesterday.
About 4pm (Friday 23 October 2020), a Holden Commodore collided with a Honda CB1000R motorcycle near the intersection of Cliff Road and Harbour Street.
The Holden continued driving on Endeavour Drive, before the driver braked suddenly and reversed his vehicle, again colliding with the motorcycle. The rider – a 30-year-old man – escaped injury.
The Holden drove a short distance, before returning to the crash scene, with officers attached to Wollongong Police District now in attendance.
Upon seeing police, the driver attempted to reverse the Holden, before police removed the keys from the ignition. He became aggressive, allegedly throwing punches at a senior constable, and spitting at officers.
The Holden driver, a 32-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Wollongong Hospital for treatment, under police guard.
He was later released and taken to Wollongong Police Station where he was charged with drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm), four counts of assault officer in execution of duty, resist officer in execution of duty, not give particulars to other driver, behave in offensive manner in/near public place/school, and destroy or damage property.
The Depot Beach man was refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court today (Saturday 24 October 2020).
