Police lay charges after fire at Greenvale

Police have charged a man after another man suffered significant burns at a property in Greenvale near Charters Towers yesterday.

Emergency services were called to an address on Grevilla Court around 1pm, December 30, where a 41-year-old man was located with serious burns to his upper body.

He was airlifted to Townsville University Hospital in a critical condition and has since been transported to Brisbane for further treatment.

A short time later police attended a residence on Telopea Court where a 49-year-old man known to the alleged victim was taken into custody.

It will be alleged that the injured man attended the Telopea Court address earlier to speak with the 49-year-old man, who then splashed him with a flammable substance and ignited it.

The Greenvale man has since been charged with acts intended to maim and is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court today (December 31).
