Police lay charges after officers punched; guns seized - Belrose

A man has been charged, and firearms and ammunition have been seized, after two officers were allegedly assaulted on the Northern Beaches.

About 12.15pm (Monday 17 August 2020), officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command were called to assist the NSW Rural Fire Service at a housefire on Hilversum Crescent, Belrose.

Fire crews extinguished the blaze but the carport and some contents were damaged.

Police were called to the scene and found ammunition and two firearms. These were seized and a crime scene was established.

When officers spoke to the occupant, he allegedly punched two officers in the face.

After a short struggle, a Taser was used to effect the arrest of the 54-year-old man.

He was taken to Manly Police Station where he was charged with six offences

• Assault police (two counts)

• Not keep firearm safely (two counts)

• Resist officer in execution of duty

• Licence holder not have approved storage.

He was refused bail to appear in Manly Local Court later today (Tuesday 18 August 2020).

The officers were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and remained on duty.
