Police lay charges after Richmond non-fatal shooting

Detectives from the Armed Crime Squad have charged a man following an alleged non-fatal shooting that occurred in Richmond last week.

Two men were arrested yesterday afternoon after a man was located on Sunday in Muir Street with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to his lower body.

The shooting is alleged to have occurred on Hoddle Street on 27 September.

The 43-year-old victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Warrants were executed by detectives from the Armed Crime Squad with the support from Yarra Crime Investigation Unit at three properties in Richmond last night.

A firearm was located, along with ammunition, mobile phones, clothing and an electric scooter.

A 26-year-old man has been charged with:

• Intentionally cause serious injury;

• Prohibited person use firearm (x2);

• Commit indictable offence whilst on bail'

• Possess ammunition without licence;

• Possess amphetamine; and

• Possess cannabis

He was remanded and will appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court today.

A second man, aged in his 20s, who was also arrested yesterday afternoon has been released pending further enquiries and the investigation remains ongoing.
