Police lay charges after stabbing - Darlinghurst

A man is due in court today charged over an alleged stabbing in Darlinghurst.

Emergency services were called to Flinders Street, near South Dowling Street, about 12.40pm yesterday (Saturday 10 June 2023), following reports a bus passenger had been stabbed.

Police will allege in court that a 34-year-old man was sitting on the bus when he was stabbed by another passenger – not known to him – who then left the scene on foot.

The injured man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to St Vincent's Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries to his left hand, arm and chin.

Officers from Surry Hills Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced a search of the surrounding area, with assistance from neighbouring police.

Following inquiries, a 19-year-old man was arrested in Prince Alfred Park at Surry Hills about 1.30pm.

He was taken to Surry Hills Police Station, where he has now been charged with seven offences,

• Wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm

• Use etc offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence

• Aggravated robbery

• Common assault, and

• Destroy or damage property (three counts)

The last six charges relate to an incident at a home in Flood Street, Bondi, earlier the same day; police will allege in court that the same man had assaulted and robbed a 34-year-old man.

The man has been refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court later today (Sunday 11 June 2023).
