Police lay charges after strike force drug investigation at Deniliquin

Two men have been charged following an investigation into the supply of illicit drugs in the state's south west.

In July 2020, Strike Force Collett was established by detectives from Murray River Police District to investigate the supply of prohibited drugs, namely methamphetamine, in the Deniliquin area.

Following an extensive investigation, strike force investigators, with the assistance of the South East Region Enforcement Squad and Dog Unit, arrested a 25-year-old man at a home in Deniliquin, about 7.30am yesterday (Wednesday 21 October 2020).

A short time later, a 29-year-old man was arrested at a second home in Deniliquin.

The pair were taken to Deniliquin Police Station.

Search warrants were executed at the homes of the two men, a storage container and a third home in Deniliquin. Officers allegedly located and seized 43.6g of MDMA, 30.5g of methamphetamine, 192.5g of cannabis, two cannabis plants, more than $15,000 cash, two electronic stun devices, three gel blaster rifles and ammunition. Along with a mobility scooter and a number of household items and power tools suspected of being stolen.

A fifth search warrant was executed by investigators from Victoria Police in Cobram, Victoria, with officers seizing cash and methamphetamine.

The 25-year-old man was charged with two counts of supply prohibited drug - commercial quantity, supply prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis, police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly, Deal with property proceeds of crime, two counts of supply prohibited drug – indictable quantity, and organises/conducts/assists drug premises.

The 29-year-old man was charged with three counts of supply prohibited drug - indictable, two counts of supply prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis, supply prohibited drug, manufacture prohibited drug – indictable quantity, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, possess unauthorised firearm, two counts of possess prohibited drug, deal with property proceeds of crime

Both were refused bail to appear in Deniliquin Local Court today (Thursday 22 October 2020).

Investigations under Strike Force Collett are continuing.
