Police lay charges - Aggravated robbery at Tennant Creek 17 January

Northern Territory Police have charged a man after a crime series in Tennant Creek last month.

On 30 December 2023, police received reports of multiple burglaries and a serious harm incident in Tennant Creek in which a 66-year-old man was assaulted. The victim was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital where he currently remains receiving treatment.

Detectives from the Tennant Creek CIB commenced investigations and identified a 21-year-old man of interest. He was arrested in Darwin yesterday afternoon by the Serious Crime Squad and has since been charged with:

  • Aggravated Burglary
  • Aggravated Robbery
  • Drive/Use Motor Vehicle Without Consent
  • Theft

He was remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court today and is expected to be charged in relation to the serious harm incident later this evening.

Detective Sergeant Nick George said "Investigations into this incident remain ongoing and police thank the Tennant Creek community for their assistance.

"This was a violent, unprovoked attack on a vulnerable member of our society and investigators have been working since the assault occurred to locate this individual."
