Police lay charges over drugs and firearms in Katherine

Northern Territory Police arrested a 45-year-old man for drugs and firearms offences yesterday in Katherine.

Acting on information received, members from the Northern Investigations Section executed a search warrant on a storage unit and located a traffickable amount of cannabis, two unsecured shotguns and a large amount of cash, as well as other items indicating drug supply.

The 45-year-old man later attended the Katherine Police Station where he was arrested without incident.

Last night police charged him with:

  • Supply Schedule 2 - commercial quantity
  • Possess Schedule 2 - traffickable quantity
  • Possess Schedule 1 - traffickable quantity
  • Possess property / commission of an offence
  • Possess thing to administer a drug
  • Failure to comply with storage requirements (firearms)
  • Possess unregistered firearm x 2
  • Possess firearm unlicenced x 2
  • Fail to comply with reporting conditions x 2

The man was remanded to appear in Katherine Local Court today.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Lawson said, "This is a significant seizure and police have disrupted a well-organised supply chain of illicit drugs in the region."
