Police lay charges - Police officer assaulted in Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police have charged an 18-year-old woman with assaulting a police officer in Alice Springs overnight.

At around midnight, members observed four females consuming alcohol while in the Todd Mall. Police engaged with the group and seized the alcohol, during which the 18-year-old allegedly became hostile towards the officer and she was arrested.

During the arrest, the woman has allegedly bitten the officer on the chest causing a minor laceration and bruising.

The officer was conveyed to Alice Springs Hospital for treatment and did not require admission.

The woman was charged with:

  • disorderly behaviour
  • assault police
  • resist arrest

She was bailed to appear at the Alice Springs Court at a later date.

Commander Craig Laidler said, "This type of behaviour is absolutely unacceptable and we take a zero tolerance approach to assaults on members of the police force.

"Members are working tirelessly to keep the community safe and they do not deserve to be treated this way."
