Police lay charges - Stealing - Northern Suburbs

Northern Territory Police have charged two people for vehicle and stealing offences in Darwin yesterday.

At around 5am, police received reports that a Toyota Hilux with a refrigerator unit attached had been stolen from a shopping centre carpark in Leanyer. The vehicle was later found abandoned on Lowrie Court in Malak. The refrigerator unit contained approximately $10,000 worth of deli meats.

Two males, aged 17 and 21, were identified through CCTV and Strike Force Trident detectives arrested the 17-year-old at a residence in Malak. He was later charged with:

  • Aggravated unlawful use of motor vehicle
  • Stealing
  • Damage to property
  • Learner driver - no person in front seat
  • Fail to display L plates

He was remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court today.

The 21-year-old was arrested at a residence in Karama and was later charged by Strike Force Trident detectives with:

  • Aggravated unlawful use of motor vehicle
  • Stealing
  • Damage to property

He was remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court today.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland said, "This behaviour can only be described as Grinch-like. It is incredibly disappointing for our members to be having to deal with these sorts of thefts just days out from Christmas."
