Bunbury Detectives have charged a 25-year-old man in relation to a lighting a bushfire in Eaton on Friday, 20 December 2019.
It will be alleged the man deliberately set fire to grass near the Collie River causing a fire that he was not able to control.
A member of the public saw the flames and contacted emergency services. Department of Fire and Emergency Services attended and extinguished the fire.
The man from Eaton has been charged with:-
• Wilfully Light or Cause to be Lit a Fire Likely to Injure or Damage.
He is due to appear before the Bunbury Magistrates Court today, 10 January 2020. This offence carries a maximum sentence of 20 years.
Prompt information provided by members of the public was vital in extinguishing this fire with minimal risk to lives and property, and identifying the offender.
