Police make arrest - Assault in Alice Springs 3 June

Northern Territory Police have arrested a 15-year-old male following an incident in Alice Springs earlier this week.

On Tuesday evening, a 16-year-old female was allegedly assaulted by the 15-year-old male, before he dragged her into a vehicle against her will and drove to another location where the female was able to flee to a nearby service station for assistance.

Upon arrival, members spoke with the female who stated she had been physically assaulted. The female was taken to Alice Springs Hospital with minor injuries.

The alleged offender was believed to be driving a red Holden Commodore seen driving away from the scene at speed. The vehicle was later sighted at a unit complex in The Gap.

Senior Constable Evans and Police Dog (PD) Freddy was deployed, leading members to a unit where occupants were seen slamming the door shut and locking it. The alleged offender then tried to flee the scene via the back door when he was apprehended by PD Freddy.

The youth was arrested without incident and charged with:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Deprivation of liberty

He was remanded to appear in court today.

Alice Springs Criminal Investigation Branch continue to investigate the incident.
