Police make arrest - Assault police in Alice Springs 28 July

A man who is alleged to have struck a police officer to the face with a bottle of alcohol, will appear before the Alice Springs Local Court.

Around 9:20pm Northern Territory Police were conducting patrols of the Alice Springs CBD area when they observed a man in possession of bottles of alcohol running from a licensed premises with the manager in pursuit.

Officers pursued the man on foot down Gregory Terrace before the man stopped and allegedly used a one of the bottles to strike an officer to the face.

The 32-year-old man was arrested and taken to the Alice Springs Watch House where it is expected he will be charged with one count of Stealing and one count of Assault a police officer. He will appear before court today.

The officer suffered bruising and swelling to the face.
