Police make arrest - Midvale fire

Arson Squad Investigators have charged a 51-year-old man from Wandina as a result of their investigation into a fire in Midvale.

It is alleged about 8.50pm on Sunday 16 June 2019, the man attended the residence of a person known to him, located on Hooley Road Midvale.

It is alleged whilst inside the home he threw burning material over a 52-year-old woman who suffered serious burns to 30% of her body, mainly to her head, neck and throat. She is currently in a critical but stable condition at Fiona Stanley Hospital.

It is also alleged the man exited the house and then threw an incendiary device into the home causing another fire. The fire caused approximately $150 000 damage to both the structure and contents of the home.

The man was apprehended by police and he was taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital for treatment to serious burns to his hands. He remains in hospital.

The 51-year-old man has been charged with:-

• With Intent to do Grievous Bodily Harm does Grievous Bodily Harm to Another; and

• Criminal Damage by Fire.

A beside hearing will take place today.
