Police make arrest - Officer Assaulted - Wagaman

Northern Territory Police have arrested a 48-year-old male following a traffic pursuit early this morning.

At approximately 2:20am, police were conducting patrols when they observed a silver Holden Commodore on Lee Point Road travelling at excessive speed. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle however, the driver failed to stop and a pursuit commenced.

A short time later, police located the driver in the parked vehicle and attempted to arrest the male. The male allegedly drove dangerously causing police to pursue him a second time.

Police later located the male in Anula were he attempted to evade police on foot before being taken into custody.

During the arrest, the offender allegedly assaulted a police officer by striking the officer in the shoulder with his leg.

The male has been charged with;

• Assault a member of the police force;

• Drive a motor vehicle while disqualified;

• Drive at a speed and manner dangerous;

• Drive medium range blood alcohol content (0.141); and

• Resist police in execution of duty.

The male has been remanded in police custody and will appear in Darwin Local Court tomorrow.
