Police make arrest - Property offending in Alice Springs 5 February

A man who was arrested in relation to an unlawful entry yesterday, will face additional charges after he was found in possession of hundreds of dollars' worth of stolen items in Alice Springs yesterday.

At 11:30am police were notified of an unlawful entry of a home on Kurrajong Crescent in which the offender was captured on CCTV rummaging through the house and stealing alcohol, electronics and cash before leaving.

Members of Strike Force Viper attended the area and swiftly located the 21-year-old man, still in possession of the stolen items.

Officers conducted a search of the offender's home where it will be further alleged they found property stolen from 13 separate unlawful entries which occurred across the East Side area from September 2021 to now. Police have contacted the victims and notified them of the found stolen property.

The man was taken to the Alice Springs Watchhouse and charged with;

• Unlawful Entry - Dwelling x 8

• Damage to Property x 3

• Stealing x 8

• Trespass on Premises x 1

• Unlawfully Possess Property x 1

• Possess Schedule 2 - Less than Trafficable Quantity

The man is awaiting a bail review at the time of writing.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Evan Kelly of Strike Force Viper said "This is a great result and highlights the continued efforts of Strike Force Viper investigators to identify and prosecute property offenders in our community,"

"This week alone has seen six individuals remanded into custody or detention as a result of recent property offences committed in Alice Springs."
