Police make arrest - Stolen vehicle in Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police have arrested two males in relation to a stolen vehicle in Alice Springs overnight.

At 11:00pm, a white Kia Cerato was stolen was a residence in Braitling. The vehicle was observed driving dangerously throughout the CBD and surrounds before police deployed a tyre deflation device along the Stuart Highway. A short pursuit commenced before the vehicle came to a stop on Winnecke Avenue, Eastside.

Two males fled the vehicle in the direction of Undoolya Drive. Patrol Dog (PD) Fitzy was deployed and subdued a 15-year-old before members arrested him.

Patrol Dog Freddy was deployed towards a nearby oval where members observed the second male attempting to flee. The 18-year-old surrendered upon hearing PD Freddy barking, where he was arrested without incident.

The 18-year-old was charged with property and vehicle offences. He was remanded to appear in Alice Springs Local Court today.

The 15-year-old was bailed to appear at a later date.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Robert Kent said "This arrest was the result substantial efforts from the Southern Dog Operations Unit, Strike Force Viper, Drone Unit and general duties.

"Around the same time last night, 5 vehicles were also stolen from a business on Schwartz Crescent. The 2 Toyota Hilux Utility's, 2 Mitsubishi Outlander Station Wagons and a Suzuki Hatchback were all observed driving dangerously throughout the CBD. 4 of the vehicles have since been recovered abandoned.

"Police are urging anyone who witnessed these incidents, particularly if you have dash-cam footage, to make contact on 131 444, Please quote reference number 10048230.

"You can also anonymously report through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000."
