Police make arrest - Warnbro hit and run crash

Officers from the Major Crash Investigation Section have charged a 35-year-old male motorcycle rider as a result of their investigation into a hit and run crash that occurred in Warnbro on Thursday, 3 November 2022, resulting in a pedestrian being injured.

About 3.20pm, a 78-year-old man walking his dog was crossing Currie Street near the intersection of Evans Street. As he was about to step onto the kerb on the opposite side of the road, it will be alleged he was struck by a motorcycle that was travelling south on Currie Street. It will be further alleged the motorcycle rider did not stop and render assistance but continued travelling along Currie Street.

The 78-year-old man received serious lower leg injuries and he remains in hospital receiving treatment.

A 35-year-old man from Port Kennedy has been charged with:-

• Driver Failed to Stop and Ensure Assistance Received after Incident Occasioning Grievous Bodily Harm;

• Driver Fail to Report an Incident Occasioning Death or Grievous Bodily Harm; and

• No Authority to Drive - suspended (other than fines suspension).

He is next due to appear before the Rockingham Magistrates Court on 21 November 2022.
