A man has been charged and a police officer has walked away from an arrest with bite marks in the state's north at the weekend.
About 10.45pm on Saturday 10 August, police spoke with a man sitting in a Mazda utility parked outside a shopping complex on Hickey Street, Casino, after checks revealed it was unregistered.
A check on the man's identity revealed there were multiple outstanding QLD arrest warrants against him.
The man got out of the car, and was directed by police to cover his exposed genitals. He then threw an item under the vehicle, and attempted to swallow a balloon.
It will be alleged that when police took hold of the man to prevent him doing so, he became aggressive and struck and kicked police numerous times. As police attempted to subdue him, he allegedly bit a male senior constable, causing the officer to pull away.
The 42-year-old man was eventually subdued, arrested and taken to Casino Police Station. He was later taken to Lismore Base Hospital after ingesting an item at the police station, and released shortly after.
Police searched the vehicle, locating cannabis, a prescription drug, and a knife.
He was charged with assault police occasioning actual bodily harm, assault police, resist police, and possess prohibited drug (x4), and refused bail to appear at Lismore Local Court today (Monday 12 August 2019).
Both male senior constables were treated at Lismore Base Hospital for bruising and cuts.
