Police officer one of two people killed in Red Cliffs collision

A police officer is one of two people killed following a fatal collision in Red Cliffs overnight.

It appears an unmarked police car and a utility were travelling in opposite directions on Kulkyne Way when they collided near Forbes Road, about 10pm.

A third vehicle in the vicinity of the two vehicles was also involved in the collision.

Sadly, a female senior constable died at the scene.

Her colleague, a male leading senior constable, was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition.

The male driver of the utility also sadly died at the scene.

Two young children, passengers in the utility, were taken to hospital for treatment to what is believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the third car and a child passenger received minor injuries and were transferred to hospital for assessment.

The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are still to be determined.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating and are travelling to the collision site.

It is expected the road will be closed overnight and into Saturday while detectives process the scene.
