Police probe stabbing in Auburn

Police are investigating the stabbing of a man at Auburn, NSW Police say.

About 6pm yesterday (Thursday 20 September 2018), an 18-year-old man attended Peter Hislop Park, Auburn, to participate in a sports event.

About 7.45pm, an unknown male asked him to attend the main entrance to the park.

When he attended the entrance, he was confronted by a group of males who asked him to follow them to an unlit area.

When he refused, the man was assaulted by two of the males. He was punched repeatedly in the head, and stabbed in the back and neck.

Police and Ambulance Paramedics were called to the scene. The man was treated for several small puncture wounds to his back and neck, and was taken to Westmead Hospital where he is understood to be in a stable condition.

A crime scene was established at the location as police from Auburn Police Area Command commenced an investigation.

One of the men has been described as Pacific Islander/Maori appearance, aged in his 20s, 180cm tall, thin build, with a dark coloured beard, a dark coloured hooded jumper and tracksuit pants, and white coloured Nike brand shoes.

There is no clear description of the other men.
