Police probe suspicious fire in Waterloo

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a suspicious fire at a home unit in Waterloo overnight, NSW Police say.

About 3.45am (Sunday 28 October 2018), emergency services were called to a home unit in George Street after reports that the premises were well alight.

Several other residents of the unit block had to leave their homes during the incident.

Fire & Rescue NSW officers were eventually able to extinguish the fire and a search was conducted of the premises.

The unit was empty at the time of the blaze.

Officers from Redfern Police Area Command have commenced an investigation into the incident which is being treated as suspicious.

Anyone who saw or heard unusual or suspicious activity in the area prior to or after the fire is urged to contact police immediately.
