Police proud to march with pride

South Australia Police (SAPOL) employees will join the LGBTIQA+ community and their allies tomorrow, marching together in celebration of love, diversity and inclusion.

The annual Pride March Adelaide is taking a new route this year, with participants gathering from 5pm at Wauwi/Light Square before the march commences at 6pm, travelling via Morphett Street, Gouger Street, Tarntanyangga, King William Street and Waymouth Street and finishing back in Wauwi/Light Square.

Vehicles, including an entourage of motorcycles, will join around 6000 participants displaying their true colours. Rolling rainbow road closures will also occur along the march route, with motorists urged to avoid the area due to delays.

Participating motorcycle riders are exempt from the requirement to wear safety helmets during the event, subject to conditions, including not exceeding 5km/h.

SAPOL officers may be attending in uniform, and vibrant blue t-shirts will also be worn proudly by employees in support of pride and acceptance.

As a further display of support, a rainbow projection will illuminate Police Headquarters on Angas Street from tonight through to Sunday.

Police remind participants that safety is a priority. Prohibitions are detailed on Pride March Adelaide's website, including no fire, no projectiles, no loose glitter, no balloons and no alcohol.
