Evacuation orders at the site of a large fire in the Newcastle area have been revised.
About 3.30pm (Monday 18 May 2026), emergency services responded to a structure fire on the Corner of Denison Street and Maitland Road.
Evacuations in the Mayfield area have been revised - the only premises police are still maintaining an evacuation order on are the three odd-number properties on Denison Street between the site of the fire and Waratah Street.
All other residents may return to their houses.
Power is in the process of being restored and will be active shortly.
If residents locate any item of concern on their properties that they believe may be contaminated, they are advised NOT to touch the items, and contact EPA on 131 555.
